Searchable database issues

Hello! I am having to redesign a website where one of the main functions is
the ability for the visitor to search a large inventory database. I'm not
very familiar with web databases, much less how to make it searchable. My
biggest issue is that I really need to figure it out rather quickly. I'm
buying books and even looking into some online classes, but I need to find a
quick fix until I can actually learn this stuff for myself. So, I guess my
question is what is the easiest way to get a database online and make it
searchable from a simple text field form with a submit button? Any help is
greatly appreciated. Also, anyone that could consult for cheap please get in
touch with me as well.

Thanks!
Jay
