Hello,

I recently transferred all the contents of my mac pro over to my new macbook pro, including applications. Entourage and all of my emails successfully made the trip, however now when I run a simple find or an advanced search, it is not finding any results. I have run some very intentional test searches while looking at emails in a specific folder to see if it would find them, and nothing works. It does work on emails that have come in since the move, but nothing pre-move. Again, just to reiterate, all the old emails did make the migration, and I can open them, but they do not come up in my search results. Has anybody seen anything like this before?

Thank you very much for your help!

The cache files that Spotlight creates were not brought over so Spotlight
will have to re-index the messages.

Hi Diane,

Thank you so much for the response. Under preferences>Spotlight I found a rebuild button. When I clicked that there was no feedback that it was doing anything, but now a few of my searches are working. Maybe there is a process running updates on spotlight in the background? I have a lot of emails, so I can see how it would take a long time.

Thanks again!

I suspect that your spotlight index got corrupted. The button you are
talking about forces Spotlight to reindex ll your messages.

Hi Corentin,

Thank you very much for the response. I hit the button again, and restarted my computer, and my searches are working again.

Thanks again,

Is it possible for Spotlight to index mbox files that are
not currently open in Entourage?

AFAIK, Spotlight can't see inside MBOX files.
I really liked the way MS Desktop Search
engine worked as it would index all of my old pst files and when I used the
search engine it would locate e-mails in the archived pst files (even though
the archived pst files were not open in Outlook). It would be great if
Spotlight would behave in a similar fashion. Is it possible?

You can create an archive Identity. Leave it open long enough for Spotlight
to index and then when you do a search in the find it ca see those emails.
You will have to switch Identities to open them.
