Searching distribution lists

How do you search distribution lists in Outlook
(either 2002 or 2003) for a specific contact, either by
name or email address? I assume there must be some way to
identify each distribution list the contact is on, since
it's important to be able to find out what a contact is
receiving or (especially if he changes jobs) to remove him.

No, there's no way to do this. Another reason why DLs may not be such a
great idea.

You say DLs may not be a good idea. Are there alternatives
in Outlook for managing email to work groups?

Categories for one: Use the By Category view, then choose Actions | New
Message to Contact.

I use personal DLs only for 3-4 very static, very small lists.

Is there a limitation on the number of contacts that can
be added in this way? It seems to work fine up to a point,
but when I get over several hundred contacts in one
category and try it, I get the following error message -
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error.
If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Or is it a
memory limitation on my computer?

I feel like such a goof now after reading this thread...
I've got company distibution lists that have 300+
contacts... This is driving me nuts. I had to reenter a
couple of those distribution lists contact by contact by
contact when the company changed the email addresses of
all the staff.. there have been must be a better way to
do it.
