Searching for addresses from address book

I cant figure out how to do a search to find an address book entry. I have tried using spotlight and the upper right search box and advanced search from the edit menu. No luck.

I have read all the help screen suggestions, but I keep getting no results.

Do you have Spotlight turned on in preferences? If yes, then see this
checklist to troubleshoot.

Spotlight does not seem to be indexing my Entourage messages.

i continue to have the same problem
i have address book open
i put in a name in the search that shows in the addressbook view
nothing ever comes up
i have checked in entourage preferences and that is fine. I have selected
rebuild.
i have marked the appropriate spotlight boxes...too
but i do not get the list of names that match my entry in the window as in
entourage 2004.

In spotlight since reindexing; only one name might show up not all the names
like Joanne or Michael
what else can i do to solve this or is entourage 2008 different enough so
that it does not search like 2004

Are you using the top search box or the smaller box right below. I suggest
you use the top search box. The smaller one is more picky about the way you
enter the info.

If you continue to have problems, then you need to give us exact examples of
what you are entering and where.

I choose address book (the 2nd icon from the left). On the left I have
Folders on my computer
Address Book
Directory Services
Address book views

I make sure that Address book is highlighted,,and on the right are all my
addresses. I have two areas to search on the upper right. I choose the top
one (looks like it has a magnifying glass on the left of the window. In
the search area I type a name... Joanne or michael. The results don't seem
to matter if I type a first name or a first and last name.

As soon as the name is entered and I hit the enter button
The addresses disappear. A bar shows up with Address Book Folders on
my Computer All contacts Everything Save - x

When I click enter to have it search... Or I think it will search.. The word
Address Book in the bar will be highlighted. There is nothing found. I
have clicked on All Contacts... Still nothing.

I don't get what I am not doing. Why nothing appears.

Are you entering both names or just Joanne and/or Michael?

Is the Address Book highlighted?

You did do the check list to be sure everything was selected? Even the
selections in Spotlight System Preferences? Did you check to see if there
are files created in this location?

"~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/2008/Main/Contacts"

Did you try a reset? In Entourage preferences --> Spotlight --> Click on the
Rebuild button.

If you still have problems....

We could try offline desktop sharing to see if I can see what is going
wrong, but my success rate with that has not been good. Contact me off list
if you want to try this.
