Searching for data in a collection of XL files. Inconsistent resul

I am searching for specific text data in 34 XL2000 files, all in one folder,
and it's not finding the data when I know it's there. I tested by looking for
text that I KNOW is in all 34 of them but it's coming up with only 21
filenames ! Anyone know why? They are all created from the same template.
All the files are closed during the search. OS is XP. I searched
knowledgebase etc. but can find no mention of this. The actual problem may be
in the Search part of Windows Explorer/My Computer and not in Excel of course!

The problem will be between the Search program and Excel's file format.
If some of the workbooks contain the text as the result of a formula
then I would not expect the search to find the text since it doesn't
exist as literal text in the workbook.
