Searching for duplicate numbers

I have to compare and delete duplicate serial numbers from
separate spreadsheets. The task is not bad with a few
numbers but becomes daunting with hundreds of numbers.
Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Do you mean that you have to delete duplicate found anywhere in the workbook
OR
Do you mean that you need to goto sheet1>delete duplicates>goto
sheet2>delete duplicates
OR
what?

The numbers to check are in columns but in different
spreadsheets. Finding the duplicates are more important
than deleting them. The idea is to prevent counting the
same serial number more than once.

Like Bill Clinton said, it depends on what YOUR definition of a
"spreadsheet" is. In excel we have workbooks and within workbooks we have
worksheets. And, I at least still do not understand where they are to be
found?
Best thing for you is to get the flexfind.xla and use it.
