Second Try: Problems with Office XP SP3 Update

I posted this more than a week ago and got no response.
Well, I am trying again.

Hi,
I have Office Xp 2002 (Student Version) and I have always
had problems with
my computer hanging up while using Excel & Internet
Explorer. This was part
of the reason I downloaded SP3 yesterday. However, after
the download and reboot, I cannot open any files anymore.
I get the message "unable to read file" for Excel files
and 'the file 'filename' not available' for Word files.
Moreover, when I try to close thw word documents, I get
some error message about 'word.dot'.

The only way Office works again is if I uninstall Office
Xp and then resintall from the original CD. I tried
installing SP3 again and have the same problem.

I have Windows XP Professional operating system.

Please let me know how I can install SP3 without having
these problems. Thanks.

Thanks Susan. My laptop came with trial version of Norton
AV2002 and I later installed Norton AV Corporate Edition
7.6. Disabling these didn't help. However, I uninstalled
both of these and SP3 update works fine after that.

I do have another problem now. After I uninstalled AV2002,
my internet connection doesn't work anymore. The only way
I could get it back was by using System Restore, but this
erases SP3 update. I don't know how to uninstall AV2002
without effecting the internet connection. If I can do
that, I think I can easily update to Office SP3. Please
let me know if you have a workaround for this.

Naveen

No, I sure don't. You'll want to contact Norton about how to use their
product.

Glad you were able to get Office SP3 working, at least.
