To answer the question, we need to know what type of CPU you have (Intel or
Power PC?), what version of OS you are using (three digits please: e.g. OS
10.5.2) and which version of Word you are using (again, three digits please)

Get the OS version from the Apple menu, and the Word version from the About
item on the Word menu.

{Damn!} That's what I thought you would say...

The document contains one or more protected section breaks.

There is a bug in Word 2008 that means the entire document cannot be edited
if some of the section breaks are protected.

You will have to ask the originator for an unprotected copy.

We are waiting on a fix.

Sorry!

Any fix yet? I am having the same problem, but I created the original document and nothing is protected. When I copied and pasted it created a section break that started the pagination over, and I need that pagination to continue. If I change pagination in the middle it won't let me change page by page either.

Dear Michelle,

For whatever reason, I can't see any previous posts in this thread (I'm
viewing in Entourage, like most of the regulars here).

You would be better off starting a new thread, giving details of your
version of Word, operating system etc, and stating the problem afresh -- in
as much detail as you can muster. It may well be that the solution is
different from that of the original poster.

Cheers,

I am not sure that I understand you problem. I need a lot more detail.

However, if it's what I think it is, then there never will be a fix: the
section break is operating the way section breaks are supposed to.

You need to adjust its settings to take control and have it do what you want
to do.

If you give us full information (e.g. Version of Word and OS and Mac), we
can tell you how to do that.
