Section footer stays same as previous, how do I change this?

Hello,

This is my first time posting, I hope someone here can help me out.

I have a document that requires a page footer starting on page 3. From
what I've read what I do is create a section break, open the
header/footer toolbar, uncheck the "same as previous" option and I'm
good to go. But now whenever I type something in the footer of section
2 it stil shows up in section 1. If I deletet he text from section 1
it's removed from section two. Is there a way to decouple the sections
for real? What am I missing?
