Section numbers

Hello everybody,
This is the first time for me but I'll try to explain what I want to know.
When you number sections in a Word text you sometimes want to start with
another figure than 1. Is it possible?

Hi, the source code of your post reveals that you're using Office 2004; this
may not be important, but since a part of my answer is going to involve the
formatting palette, and since that palette has been revised for Office 2004,
I'm not sure if that part of my answer also applies to versions of Word
earlier than 2004. So, for future references, when asking questions, always
indicate your version of Word and of your operating system, as this may
simplify a lot of things.

Any, there are two ways of doing this, one's straightforward, the other one
is buried deep inside Word's many menus. Let's start with the simple one:
first of all, make sure the formatting palette is activated. Select the text
you want to number. See the Bullets and Numbering section of the formatting
palette? Expand it, and activate the numbering. There's a field right next
to the label "Start", and as you may have guessed by now, that's the one
you'll need.

You can access the same field by going to Format>Bullets and Numbering,
Numbered tab. Select the kind of numbered list you'd like to have, then
click on Customize. In the new window that opens, you'll see the same "Start
at" field. The advantage of this method, complicated as it may sound, is
that you don't have to use the formatting palette, which some users prefer
not to do.

Hope this was helpful
Michel
