Security patch for Office products

When I do office update it requires original installation media. As an
enterprise customer, is it any way to skip this process? Because some of our
servers are inside the firewall and it is very difficult to map these server
to the corporate segment shares.

Thanks for all your support.

Yes, but it may mean changing the way Office 2003 is deployed. For example,
in order to bypass the original media requirement, Office 2003 must be
installed by using setup.exe and at the end, the setup files must remain on
the system. This ensures that the Local Install Source (LIS)* is present on
the system.

* The LIS is the hidden MSOCache folder. Steps should also be take to
ensure that the 60 day cleanup wizard under Windows XP is disabled.

How about the previous version of Office support these feture (like office
XP or Office 2000).

Thanks in advance.

Office 2000 can't be patched via SUS/WSUS.

Never tested Office XP since my site jumped from Office 97 to 2003. If I
was to think about it a bit, I would probably encourage copying the Office
XP cd to a network location and install via the unc path to setup.exe. This
way if Office XP does need files during a patch sequence, that a workstation
should be able to find its way back to where it was installed from.
