Security/Permissions Frontpage 2000 subweb - won't allow additional permitted user

O

Ogg

Hi.

I googled for an answer to this, but couldn't find anything that helped.

My situation is as follows. I am trying to password protect a subweb. I
have managed to set it up so that a username & password is required,
however, the only username/password it is allowing is my administrative one.

Obviously I don't want other people to have full (authoring etc.) access to
my site. I want to create *one* unique additional user name and password so
that I can give browse access to the site to approved individuals.

I go through all the steps as described by both FrontPage Help & Valueweb
(my host - yes, they do allow password protected subwebs).

I open: http://www.*mysubweb* / tools / security / permissions / settings:

"Use Unique Permissions for this web" is selected.
I select "Users" and my administrative name/password is shown: "Administer,
author and browse.
"Only registered Users have browse access" is selected.
Still on the User menu, I click "Add".
Add User Menu pops up - I enter "permitted" as the username / a password / a
password confirm.
"Browse this web" button selected.
I hit OK & the name appears in the user/permission menu.
I hit "Apply" and get an error message:

"Server error: Error removing one or more users: the following user name
does not exist: 'permitted'.

I can't figure this out. I'm not trying to REMOVE a user, I'm trying to add
one. Yes, I am hitting the correct button "ADD" (to the left) not "REMOVE"
to the right. This is crazy.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Have you contacted your host admin about this?
