Security Update 3

The Office Security Update 3 installation asks for a file called PRORET on
the Professional installation disk, but I only have Office Basic Edition, and
after inserting that disk, the installation failed. I then tried a download
option that seemingly avoids need of the installation disk, but that also
failed. The explanatory notes for this upgrade say that it is for Word 2003,
Excel 2003, etc., that are part of the Basic edition. What can I do?

Hi, nail1,

This usually points to you having a previous version of Office still
partially installed on your computer.

Please check the Add/Remove Programs application in the Windows Control
Panel to see if you still have Office XP or Office 2000 Pro installed.
Either uninstall those, or supply their CD when prompted for PRORET.

Susan, you hit it right on the head (fitting, for "nails1"). After posting my
query, I did indeed check what else I had installed and found that, when I
bought a new computer and trensfered over programs from my old one, they
included Office XP Professional 2002 - hence, the PRORET request, which I
handled by deleting the outdated software. So I stumbled on your answer
myself, but much appreciate your response and accuracy.
