Security update breaking WORD as well as Explorer browswer

I have an automatic update for my Windows system. It broke my Explorer
browser, which I think everyone knows about that.

However, I can neither open a file in WORD, or do the SAVE AS function
either for new files. This is real disaster.

Called Microsoft, but you get some guy in South Asia who just reads a
script.

Evidentally a lot of people are having problem with Word.

I did find the "fix" for Explorer.

Type in http://www.amazon.com, but DO NOT type www.amazon.com. It will hang
up your browser.

I am still working on the WORD issue, I am not the only person impacted.

Your problem is almost certainly a recent Window update.

For immediate purposes, go to the Add/Remove programs control panel and

click on the box to show updates (top right). Down near the bottom are
Windows updates. You are looking for "Security Update for Windows XP
(KB908531)". Unistall this.

Sure, like the average person, is going to be able to follow these
instructions.

Microsoft screws up but it is HPs problem.

The problem with the update is that Microsoft cannot test it with *every*
third party software program. Anyone who expects them to do that is being
completely unrealistic. And from what I've read, the problem involves older
software. Just how far back can you logically expect MS to build/patch their
software around? Why not get mad because you can't run all DOS programs any
longer?
