Security Update for Outlook 2003 KB892843 (OUTLFLTR) killing tasks

We have observed that the Security Update for Outlook 2003 KB892843
(OUTLFLTR) kills our ability to accept assigned tasks that arrive via e-mail.
The tasks arrive, but cannot be opened and do not get added to the task list
of the recipient. We also tested having the task-sender install the security
update. With the update installed, tasks marked completed by a recipient (a
recipient withOUT the update installed) are not updated on the senders list.

Any ideas?

I'm replying to my own post. I see now that others have noted the same issue
and that Microsoft is aware of the problem. So we'll join the group waiting
for a patch.

Jeff - we had the same problem. Per Microsoft Tech Support, the issue
apparently is that this security update conflicts with SP2 and prevents
Outlook assigned tasks from opening. The solution is to remove the update
(via Control Panel-Add Remove Programs). Please note that you probably have
more that one instance of the update on your computer and ALL should be
removed. On one of my computers, I had to insert the Office disk to repair a
CAB file. On the other computers, the update(s) could be removed without any
other intervention.
The MS Tech also recommended that if your computer is set for automatic
updates, you "uncheck" KB892843 so it won't keep installing.
This "fix" does not correct previous unopened tasks, only those assigned
after the fix.
SP3 should fix the problem but won't be out for another month or more.
Hope this helps.

SMA,

Thanks for posting this information. I deleted KB892843 and the problem has
been resolved. Not sure if this has opened other security issues but at least
the Task feature is working. Now waiting for the SP.

Our office has the same problem that:
- Assigned tasks update the recipent's task list OK
- But when completed, the "assigner" only gets an email. It does NOT update
(or "check") the task as completed. Worked fine in O '97

We also do not list the KB892843 update in Add/Remove.

When will SP3 be out?
