I got a "Failure to Install" error message. There was no useful information
about a fix associated with the message. I

yep, I got that too - could download but not install. Plus when I shut down
my PC, I get "installing update 1 of 1 each time". Annoying. Have you had
that too.

Others posts I 've read here peple have similar problems with this update.
I've yet to see a solution! What's the sense of giving us updates if there
are glitches in the installation.

Yes, I have the same problem. I haven't figured how to making the useless
nagging go away either.

I found that I had to completely reinstall Office 2003 to get this
update to install. I think the reason was because I remapped my
drives. I originally installed Office 2003 when my CD-Rom drive was
drive G:, but had later changed it to drive D:. The link below will
give you Microsoft's recommendations. They have three possible
solutions. The third one is the complete reinstall. Here is the link:

Best of luck!

Thanks this is a very good reference and I've bookmarked it with the complete
expectation that I'll be needing it soon.

I managed to solve my problem by de-installing an earlier Windows
Update--Microsoft.net. Once it it was gone, the patch went in smoothly.

I tried all the listed tricks here with the exception of doing a
remove/install of Office 2003. Still it was a no go. The last thing I
tried fixed it. Instead of using the security update file that the auto
updater downloaded, I went to MS and downloaded another copy and saved
it to a temp directory. I also put the Office 2003 CD in. During this
install (using the RUN command), the installer found a missing file
which it promptly retrieved from the Office 2003 CD. Installation went
fine after that... no more annoyances. Hope this helps someone. Aloha!

I did go to the link - options 1 and 2 didn't work, so I did option 3, did a
complete instead of the "typical" install, checked for updates, downloaded
the SP2 updates and 2 KB updates successfully, then did the express install
for the KB892843 update, and lo and behold, it did work.

many thanks for the link.

I will add that it's kind of a pain that every time MS creates a new KB
update, that there is always glitches. I kindof remember having to reinstall
Office the last time since that's the only solution that works....
