Neo, I'm also having this problem and it's just resent that this has happened.
I have Office 2002 service pack 3 with Home Edition Version 2000
What needs to be done to get this corrected so it's running nice and smooth
again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what it needs..
Thanks for your help,

You can manually download the update from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e6-23da-45e5-9c2b-c47331d30e79&displaylang=en

I would run this update manually and see if you get any type of error
messages thrown back when trying to install manually.

What else...

I'm going to assume that "Home Edition Version 2000" means you are actually
running Windows XP Home Edition. You need to ensure that you have Windows
Installer 2.0 or newer. The easiest way to check is to select Start > Run >
Type: msiexec /? > OK button. The very first line will contain the version
information.

If you need to get the latest and greatest in Windows Installer technology,
then you need version 4.5. This can be found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&DisplayLang=en

Go to the bottom of the page and get the one marked:
WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

Other than that, just make sure you have applied the latest and greatest
service packs and security updates for Windows XP. (Latest service pack for
XP is service pack 3 and will contain Windows Installer 3.01.)

I did as Neo suggested and manually downloaded but got the "regedit" answer,
which suggested going to the "ddeexec" folder for permissions, this is what
it looks like:

Filepath: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\giffile\shell\Open\ddeexec

Name column: ab (Default)
Type column: REG_SZ
Data column: "file:%1",,-1,,,,,

This could be written in Klingon for all I know, needless to say both
automatic and manual updates fail!

Any advice greatly appreciated.
