security warning

Hi - when I open a file in Access 2003 I gtet security
warning message - that file may not be safe. When I
follow the help function, I am told that I can change the
macro security level by going to tools-Macro - but there
is no option there for changing the security level.

I tried to install a commerical digital signature from
Verisign but that causes my e-mail to send blank message
to AOL and hotmail and do not want to pay for something
that I cannot use.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

As with the old Word Macro Virus Warning, this message doesn't mean your
database has a virus - just that it contains code (and what database doesn'
t?). The security warning for Medium security just requires you to click
Open to proceed; the High security warning doesn't let you open the database
at all. If you find yourself in this fix, you can change the Macro Security
level by creating a new, blank database and changing the security level in
the Macro Security dialog, opened by Tools|Macros|Security. Setting the
level to Low will suppress the security warning messages, though this is
somewhat risky. But there is a better way; it's preferable to create a
Personal Digital Certificate and use it to sign your code, allowing you to
set the Macro Security level to a safer Medium or High level.

Before Access 2003, there was no real need to create a digital signature and
sign your Access code (certainly not for databases intended only for your
own use). But now there is - by signing your code with your Personal
Digital Certificate, you can avoid the pesky Security Warning message every
time you open a database with your own code in it. The next section of this
article will describe how to create a Personal Digital Certificate and use
it to sign code in your databases.

Try resetting the toolbars by right-clicking on it and choosing "Customize"
First select one of the toolbars and choosing the Reset button. If that
doesn't allow you to choose Security from the Macro menu item, then try
clicking the Properties button and then the Restore Defaults button.

Thanks - will try that - had created personal digital
signature but keep getting message that it is not
appropriate and is going to be deleted. Tried Verisign's
digital signature and it causes blank e-mail messages to
be sent - as soon as I stopped using their signature,
blank messages stopped!
