See original hours in PWA

I have users who enter hours via PWA. Sometimes they go over the alloted
hours assigned to them to complete the task. PWA updates the hours
automatically instead of keeping the original hours. Is this normal? I know
you can see the original hours by going to options but is there a way to keep
it there without it automatically updating it? Also, how does a team member
get the hours to go back to the original hours if they added to many hours by
accident? For example task 1 is alloted 16 hours. Resource one puts in 18
over two days, which causes the total hours to be 18, and saves and updates
it. However, he realizes his error and was only suppose to enter in 16. So
when he updates his time to reflect 16 the time still stays as 18 and says
that the work is 93% complete when it should be 100% complete.

The original hours of work on the task are saved in the Baseline Work field,
assuming that you remembered to baseline the project before going to
production. If you want your team members to be able to see the Baseline
Work field on their timesheets in PWA, refer to the following FAQ:

Also, I seriously question the tracking methodology represented in your
example. If the team member actually takes 18 hours to complete the task,
why should he/she be required to enter only 16 hours? I would encourage
your to re-examine this requirement. If you insist that this is how you
want to track progress, then in your example where the team member entered
18 hours, the team member should change the 18 hours of Actual Work to 16
hours and set the Remaining Work to 0 hours. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the link, I will take a look at that. Also, I don't think I was
clear with my example. When you are in PWA and you are entering your hours
against your tasks you see task name, work, % work completed, actual work,
etc... Now in the work column the total hours allocated to that resource to
complete the task is 16. Now by accident the resource enters 9 hours one day
and 9 hours the next. This increases the work column to 18 and the % work
complete column to 100%. However, the resource realizes that he/she fat
fingered it and meant to hit 8 hours not 9. Hence, the work column should
only be 16. Now when you go back and change the hours over the two days to 8
hours a piece the work column still stays at 18 instead of changing back to
16. This also shows the % work complete column at 98% when it should be
100%. Hope that makes sense.

Dale,

Nevermind, you got me thinking about the other columns available and the
remaining work column can be updated to reflect the old work hours. Thanks
for your help.
