Seeing entire page when using larger paper size

What do I need to do to see the whole page when working
on a larger piece of paper.

I am working on a 12x12 piece of paper which I can see
the entire page until I insert a background. When I do
that it changes to a web view. When I go back to normal
view the background isn't there. I am trying to make a
scrapbook page. Is there some check box that I need to
change?

Thank you

Hi Safetymom,

I'm assuming you're talking about Word?
If you're using Format=>Background=>Picture
that feature is only supported in WebPage view
prior to Word 2003. If you want a printable
background you can use Format=>Background=>Printed Watermark
as one method.

Thanks Bob. I am using Office XP and 2000. I am trying
to show how to create a scrapbook page sized 12x12. It
is too large for the screen, I want to shrink the size so
I can see the whole page as I am placing items on the
page.

As far as creating the background I use format,
background, fill effects, then insert a picture because I
need the whole page covered with the picture. Printed
watermark only inserts a small picture and is faded. I
can't shrink the page view on screen there either.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Safetymom,

In Print Layout View the zoom control dropdown should
have 'Page Width' and 'Whole Page' choices. You can also
drag separate icons for each of those from
Tools=>Customize=>Commands by using the 'All Commands'
category and scrolling the right list down to ViewZoom...

In addition to using the Fill Effects and inserting
a single picture from Fill Effects you can use the Textures
tab and select any picture from the [Other Texture] button
to have a tiled picture fill the background

If you're inserting a picture background you can use the
View Header/Footer choice and then insert your background
to have it repeat on additional pages.

Bob, your answers have been very helpful but I still
can't get to see the whole page when I insert the
background picture and add text. I can see the
background with text in web preview but not in print
preview. Certain selections are grayed out in print
preview. Is there a check box I need to uncheck or
something? Or is this just something I have to live
with? Thanks again.

Hi Safetymom,

Format=>Background=>Fill Effects is basically
'web only' choice prior to Word 2003,
although you can print from your browser in
Web page preview.

For a printable background you can use
Format=>Background Printed watermark and size the
picture

or while in View/Header/Footer you can either
(a) use the drawing toolbar and create a rectangle
the size of the background you want and then use
'Fill Effects' from the drawing toolbar 'Fill' icon
(Use the Picture tab for a whole page/rectangle graphic or
Texture for a tiled graphic to fill the rectangle), or
(b) Use Insert=>Picture and resize that graphic
and then close Header/Footer View.
