Hi Graham,
I did it initially to see if it would work that way and on the surface, it seemed to work fine right off the bat. And it seemed to be working reasonably for several weeks altho the template file size was far smaller.
When trying to save a 2003 dot file from within Word2007, there is a warning screen that comes up. The wording on the warning screen is so obtuse that you have no idea what is meant. I probably saw the warning screen 15 times and still do not know what is meant by it nor how to move past it.
"The following features in this document are not supported .." But I was saving the TEMPLATE, not the document. Yet, the warning keeps referring to the document.
Then, when trying to exit the document, it repeats but as a different warning: "You are about to save your document to one of the new file formats.." And I think, unless you uncheck the box about maintaining compatibility with 2003, it might run you in a circle, never being able to close.
The wording needs to be more concise clear and simplified. I did not of course type out the entire box wording above.
I'll get there. J
Thanks !
Gil
You cannot create a DOTM file by renaming a DOT file. You must *save as* DOTM from Word 2007 - or leave it as DOT which Word 2007can handle without problem.

Aha. I think I see what I've done. I saved by personal template as ..dotm by simply renaming it from .dot. If I open the prior .dot file with Word 2007, the Key Assignments are still there. Perhaps I should leave it as "dot".

cheers all. I'll play with it some more.
Hi All,
Is there a way using Word 2007 to see Keyboard Shortcuts for an attached template that has been brought forward and converted from Word 2003 to a "dotm" extension? I have many keyboard shortcuts in it. They still work, but assigning new additional shortcuts would be much easier if I could see the old ones.
The prior shortcuts do not show when I use Customize Keyboard/ Macros/ Save Changes in (attached template).
TIA,
Gil
