Select a View on Team Web Site

I am curious why I can open a word document in a library from the Explorer
View to edit the contents but cannot from the All Documents View? If I
attempt to open the document in the All Documents view it opens but I cannot
edit the content, even if I elect the Edit in Word from the drop down I still
cannot edit the document. It gives me the folowing pop-up, "Edit Document"
requires a Windows SharePoint - compatable application and Microsoft IE 5.0
or greater. Both of which I have. I have Windows XP w/Office 2002 and IE v
6.0.

However, if I change the view to Explorere View I can then double click to
open and it the documnet opens in word so that I can edit the document. Why
will this view allow me to edit and not the default All Documents view?

Are you sure you have Office XP ? The borderline between when "Edit in
Microsoft Word" works goes between Office 2000 and Office XP (there is no
"Office 2002" - although Office XP includes Word 2002; Excel 2002 etc.).

With Office XP and Office 2003, Edit in MS Word works; in Office 2000 and
below it doesn't.

It's very odd if that isn't the case for you. Did you maybe install an
Office 2K level program after the install of Office XP ?

Your correct, I have Windows XP and Word 2002 not Office 2002. My XP version
is Professional 2002. This still doesn't explain why it will open and edit in
the "explorer" view and not in the "all documents" view.
