Select, Copy, Paste, Disappears

When I select and copy text on the Web and then open Word
2002 to paste - the text is not there.

If I open Word first and then selct and copy, then I can
paste.

Is there some way this can be changed?

If you have the Works plug-in for Word, disable or uninstall it.

As Mike says, if your copy of Word came as part of Works Suite, then the
problem is caused by the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word, which clears
the Clipboard when you start Word. Uninstall it through Control Panel |
Add/Remove Programs (this won't uninstall Works or Word, just the add-in
that causes this and many other problems).

The only functionality you will lose is:

1. The ability to start Word from the Works Task Launcher and use the
special Word templates that come with Works.

2. The ability to use a Works database or address book as a data source for
a Word mail merge or to start a Word mail merge from Works.

You will avoid over/underpopulation of menus (Clip Gallery, Mail Merge), a
prompt to save the Normal template every time you quit Word, having the
Clipboard cleared every time you start Word, and (we suspect) the problem
where a document gets saved as Normal.dot.
