Select table with alt-2-click

Is there a way to select a table with Alt-Dble-Click and not get the Research
pain? Word 2003

Unfortunately, no. If you are in Print Layout view, you can select the table
by clicking on its table handle, but the only keyboard shortcut for this is
Alt+T, C, T. This is one of the most annoying "improvements" in Word 2003.

Something seems amiss: Alt-T, C, T gives Tools > Customize... > Tools. The
menu Table shortcut is indicated as "a", but Alt-A gives me an Appendix
Heading Style. It's in Normal.dot, so it looks like an IT job, & I'll try to
disable it.

Right, sorry. I don't use such shortcuts, so I misstated it. It would be
Alt-A, C, T. If Alt+A gives you a style, then it's definitely a custom
shortcut, which you can remove through Tools | Customize | Keyboard.
