Select text and typeover in WordXP

When you select a section of text by highlighting and than
type the text stays. In Word 97 the you could select text
and type the text would be deleted and the new text was
entered.

use typeover...the swith is the insert button on
keyboard...Turn typeover on and off... Just test and
worked on my XP word

You need to enable "typing replaces selection."

Click...

Tools | Options | Edit: and select "Typing replaces
selection"

I think this is a bug. We tested it by going into Tools,
Options, Edit and checking the "Typing Replaces
Selection" checkbox. Closed out of Word. Went back in,
and it was checked. Opened document, it was still
checked. Typed some, highlighted some text to type over,
and it didn't replace the selection. Checked on the
checkbox, it was unchecked. It's as if trying to type
over the selection actually unchecks the function. I'm
reporting this to Microsoft.
