Selecting color of text in viewer pane (Outlook 2003)

Because of vision problems I needed to switch to a higher contrast
theme. This works well with all my applications except for outlook
(2003). The incoming plain text messages look great (using my selected
background and foreground text colors). Most of my incoming message
seem to be formatted. (I come from the old school when email was always
just text. I don't know why everybody has to add formatting. A waste of
time and bandwidth if you ask me.) At any rate, I can't see the damn
formatted messages.

At "office.microsoft.com" under outlook 2003 I found:: "If you use the
Windows high contrast setting, e-mail you compose and receive in Rich
Text format will now be shown in draft font." That is clearly not
happening. The text is usually very dark blue on my very dark
background. Almost totally unreadable.

The help under outlook 2002, says you can go to "View" and select
"Draft font" and the message will appear in your draft font with your
system foreground and background text colors. This is what I want, but
outlook 2003 does not have this option in the View menu. Do I have to
revert to 2002?

On my home computer I use thunderbird which doesn't have this problem.
(They provide a selection for setting the colors of formatted
messages). However at work our network administrator says that
Thunderbird can't be used on our kind of network. I don't understand
networking enough to refute him, but it is a damn shame that I can't
read my messages.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may offer.
