Selecting/Editing WordArt Objects

WordArt will be the death of me! I hope someone can help me with this.
I've added a WordArt object to my document. I formatted it as "Behind Text"
so that the it appears transparent and the underlying document can be read
through it.

It appears fine in Print or Web Layout views but when I actually print it,
the object comes out opaque. When I try to edit the WordArt object, I can't
select it with the mouse or the cursor.

Any ideas on how to select it for editing and on how to make it print behind
the text as it appears in Print or Web Layout view?
