Selecting only one column in a table

When I try to highlight only one column in a table, it highlights parts of other columns in the table. I am trying to insert a new column, and cut and paste the info from another column into the new column. When I try to highlight, to copy and paste, it highlights cells from columns next to it.

This usually means that you have merged cells somewhere in your table.

Find them, and then, depending on the complexity of your table, you can
either unmerged them temporarily or split the table (From the Table menu)
just above and below the merged cells to do your stuff and then bring the
table back together by deleting the paragraph marks (¶) that were inserted
by the split table command.
