Selecting printer button on toolbar hangs outlook

When the default printer is a network printer on another
server, Outlook hangs/pauses when the cursor highlights
the printer button on the toolbar. The button has not
been selected, only highlighted. It seems as if Outlook
tries to contact the printer or server for some reason.
If the default is a local printer that's operational it
does not pause/hang. This problem did not occur on older
versions of Outlook.

What's the Outlook version? Did you install all the latest service pack
and security patches?
