selecting smtp server for outcoming mail

I am work at few locations, each with its own POP, SMTP and/or Exchange
servers. Two of my computers run Win XP pro, one W2K pro, and all have Office
2003 pro and I use Outlook on all of them.

I download my incoming mail to my Outlook 2003 Inboxes from 3 different
sources, no problem there. However, when sending a mail out, I would like to
be able to choose which of the SMTP servers is used such that my return
address is displayed correctly. I do not know if I can do this, and if so
how. It seems to be possible, as if I reply to a mail send to A from a
location B, it displays a message that the mail will be send using SMTP
server at A. I would like to be able to send a mail from, say, B through the
SMTP server at A to display my address at A.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

What smtp server you use has absolutely no bearing on the return
address.... in outlook go to Tools-Email Accounts, edit the email
account and on the General Tab in Advanced, you can enter the return
address. This will be entirely independent of any smtp server that you
use...

it be automated, say by a macro, such that this setting is only for the mail
being sent and then it returns to default settings?

So are you saying that you have more than one return address?

Yes, exactly. And, I would like to specify the one I would like to use for a
given mail.

The /easiest/ answer AFAICS is to create a separate Outlook profile for
each return address, but all pointing at the same pst file. then you
just launch the profile for the required address at each location....

JanAdam,
You might want to check with each of your mail account ISP's. See if they
offer a different SMTP server setup, for business travelers. Usually its the
same SMTP (outgoing mail) setting, but a different port setting, other than
the default port 25 setting. This way you can send while connected to
different ISP's service. And in most cases you do not have to change it,
when connected to their service either.

Gordon, Rich – thank you both for your advices. Sorry for not replying
immediately but I was away for a few days. I thought it was something simple
but I see I have to think some more about it. If I ever find out how to deal
with it, I will post it here.
