Selection colour

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I select the text (Word) or one or more cells (Excel) the selection background (Word) or box/background around them (that marks the selected part of document) is very very pale blue in colour. As it's so pale that it's difficult to notice in different light conditions and view angles, I'd like to change it to a darker blue (similar to that in Windows verison of Office).
How can that be done if at all (except by changing systemwide settings in Mac OS prefs)??

Selection color is set in the OS and all programs use the same color
(Excel uses the color to outline a box, and then a lighter version of it
to highlight within the box). You'll need to pick a new color in System
Preferences | Appearance to find one that works better for you.

Ditto.... I agree and look forward to someone showing us how to ditch
the pale blue

My finder preference is Blue and there is no shade option in OSX. Anyway
to make darken up the pale light blue Excel uses?

Rather than the Finder application, go to your "System Preferences..."
item in the Apple menu. Click on the "Appearance" icon. In the
Appearance tab, select "Other..." in the "Highlight Color:" dropdown.
Adjust the color to your preferred darkness.

That's exactly what I did but OSX give you no options on the blue. I do
not know how to adjust the Highlight Color in QSX or Excel.

I know the OSX adjustment. The problem is that Office pale blue is somehow much lighter than the one in (for example) TextEdit, or in a text box here in FF ... And that means that in order to have normally visible color in Office, I get really dark, even too dark color in other apps ...
I really hope for separate adjustment of highlight color in Office ...

Keep experimenting. This isn't a new issue, and over the last four
years, I've used a good 30 colors that work fine in all apps. You can
find one that suits you.

You can let MS know this affected you--send feedback here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/suggestions.mspx
or by using Help | Send Feedback in Word.

What do you mean by "no options on the blue"? When you click Other, the
OS X color palette should appear and let you pick any color. If it
doesn't, that's an OS problem.

You can't. All you can do is adjust the OS X system highlight color.

Please tell me where you were able to adjust the highlight color in OSX
10.5.2? I went to System Preferences/Appearance and clicked on the
Highlight Color and selected 'Blue' but there is no adjustment on the
blue. I must be going to the wrong place?

Choose "Appearance | Highlight Color | Other..." not "Appearance | Appearance
":

Do not select Blue, select Other and then pick any color you want from color circle ...

Thank you, thank you! It never dawned on me to pick "Other" and that
fixed the issue. The more I use Leopard the more I like it. My Excel
highlight now looks better. The problem with color is we can all
display our own bad taste.

Hmmmm....

That's somewhat disturbing, given that I wrote in a previous post:

go to your "System Preferences..." item in the Apple
menu. Click on the "Appearance" icon. In the Appearance
tab, select "Other..." in the "Highlight Color:" dropdown.

to which *you* replied "That's exactly what I did..."

I must have been half asleep at the time because that is exactly
what you said to do. I never noticed the "Other" button

It's great that you like Leopard, but why is that relevant? Tiger's Sys
Prefs had the same setting:)
