Selection tool problem

I'm not sure if this problem I'm having is related to the Selection tool, but
it is similar....

After writing information with the pen, after a short delay, Onenote will
switch to the selection tool and select the last item(s) written. This is
fustrating because is is a constant battle with me having to switch back to
pen mode and un-select the selected text.

In Options section under Handwriting, there is a check box that is
unselected that says "Automatical switch between Pen and Selection Tool".????

I have to use Onenote in "Create Drawings Only" mode because Onenote does
such a poor job of handling equations(OneNote breaks them apart).

I'm a student who has tried to go paperless(and has been very successful at
it) for the last two semesters, but the constant battles with Onenote has
brought me to the edge of going back to pencil and paper. I'm spending toooo
much time fighting Onenote and its peculiarities. It is now distracting
from my studies....

Danny, I know there are going to be the MVP's telling you different things,
but I do know that I had the problem too. What it really is, is that your
computer has to catch up with the Ink. When you change the tool, it's forcing
the memory to dump it's self. and refresh the screen.
Mainly the problems occur because of a few reasons, a couple of programs
gobbeling up the RAM.
Or Other programs gobbeling up the CPU time.
or you just dont have enough ram in your machine.

These problems can also stem from normal computer neglect. Disk Defrag, Disk
Space, and try turning Windows Virtual (fake) Memory to a constant number,
with windows changing the value all the time it'll slow your machine down.
Make it tripple your actual RAM. (exp. SAy you have 512mb of ram, set the VM
to 1536mb)
Memory is a necesity with tablets, Inking is a hog when it comes down to it.

Danny, that is really unusual behavior. Which version of OneNote are you
running? Which Tablet PC do you have, are you running Windows XP SP2 and
the Tablet PC Edition 2005? Which pen drivers are you using?

Danny,

I'm sorry you're having this problem. Fortunately, I think it is easy to
solve.

OneNote is releasing the file after a period of inactivity. When doing so it
is going back to the selection mode. You can change this delay in
Tools->Options->Open and Save->Accessing files from multiple location. The
default in SP1 is very short (1 min I think), you can increase it if you are
not accessing your notebook from multiple computers, and restart OneNote.

Hope this helps,

Benoit

I'm having a similar problem. Onestart will *not* allow me to use the pen
tool. It is stuck on the selection/type tool, and even simply selecting the
pen tool is not allowed. Help!
