Selector bar freezes after first save of a new document

I had to re-install Office 2004 for OS X when my HD failed, and I
imported my Office preference files from the back-up I had of my old
HD. Now, when I save a new document for the first time, the selector
bar freezes and shows inactive colors instead of the usual aqua blue.
How do I fix this? Thanks very much. Peace.

Hi Muzik,

The first thing to test is those old back-up pref files. With ALL Office
applications quit (not just minimized) pull the entire Microsoft Preference
file (~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft) to the desktop. Launch Word (a new
set of prefs files will be created) and see if the problem has disappeared.

If it has, then one of the prefs files is definitely at fault. So, quit
Word again and replace the newly created com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist with
the old one. Test again. If the problem re-emerges, you'll have to scrap
the old Word .plist file and recreate your prefs. If the problem is still
gone, quit Word again and repeat the procedure with the
com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist file. If that one is okay, next try the
Microsoft Office Settings (11) file and after that the Office Font Cache.

Eventually you'll find the file that's causing the problem. Trash it.

If removing the entire Microsoft Preference file does not eliminate the
problem, then something else is to blame. Check this URL for other likely
candidates (test the Normal template first):

(if using Safari, you'll have to click Refresh a couple times; Internet
Explorer will work fine).
