Selector bar freezes part 2

Thanks, Beth! I trashed all the .plist and Office preference files,
and now everything seems to be working fine. However, now, when
exiting the program, word says, "Saving normal," which I don't need (I
unselected "auto update" from where one modifies their Normal
style--just checking to see if that's the correct thing to do), and
all of my sounds (the various clicks and bleeps when cutting, copying,
pasting, and printing) have vanished. Should I re-install the sounds
from the source disc or is there something easier I can do? Thanks
very much. Peace.

Hi Muzik,

The Normal template and Normal style are two different things. The Normal
template is a file on which all new documents are based (unless you specify
otherwise). Word saves Normal when you exit for a number of reasons (some
of which are not immediately apparent to us mere humans :). Are you also
getting a dialog asking if you want to save the Normal template? If so and
that bothers you, you can turn it off in Preferences> Save and uncheck
"Prompt to save Normal template."

As for the normal style, "automatically update" should be turned off by
default anyway. The normal style contains default formatting specifications
that you can change if you like. Word will use normal style unless you tell
it otherwise. Look up Styles in the Word Help for more on this subject.
Styles can be very powerful and efficient when creating documents.

As far as your sounds are concerned, it may be that you need to reset
another preference. This one's in Preferences> General. Check "Provide
feedback with sound." Does that do it?

By the way, you'll find more about the Normal template and Styles, as well
as other troubleshooting procedures, at the URL in my signature.
