Hi.

I have created a database that I would like to sell. Those purchasing it
already have Access on their computers. How can I protect the database so
that only those individuals who purchased it can use it?

In which version of Access did you develop your application? If you used
Access 2007 there are free tools that will allow you to create a run time
version of your app.

Using the run-time support does not change the application at all, and if
the users, as the original poster said, have Access installed, having the
runtime support installed will not prevent them using Access with the
application. So, why would it matter?

With considerable difficulty. Access database security has been around for
years, but so have easily-searchable "cracks" - so much so that Microsoft
chose to remove workgroup security from A2007 accdb databases altogether.
"Locks only keep out honest people".

but bear in mind that no desktop system can be made completely secure. If a
thief wants to take your app, they'll figure out a way.

keep it at your office, on SQL Server and shut them off when they stop
paying.

It works _GREAT_ via ADP.
