send and receive error reported but actually mail has been sent

Apparently randomly certain e-mails are not sent and the following error
message is reported: Task ' XX - sending and receiving' reported error
(0x80040109) Unknown error 0x80040109. However, it is clear that the mail was
actually sent because I receive replies. Currently sending lots of duplicated
mails because I cannot be sure that they have been sent.
Any advice please
