send appointment to a non outlook user

I send out email meeting notices to our board members and I wanted to start
sending them using the appointment option in outlook. But what if they are
not an outlook user, for example yahoo or gmail. How will it appear to them?
will they be able to accept or reject the appoinment?

Yes, the appointment will appear as an Internet Calendar invite. You should
be OK.
