Send as attachment from Word 2003 SP2

One of my staff is having the following problem when attempting to use the
"Send as Attachment" from Word 2003 SP2. The email window pops up, he can
type the email address in the To: line, and the document appears to be
attached. However, when he clicks the Send button, nothing seems to happen.
If he closes the email, it is then sitting in his Outlook 2003 Inbox. He can
then open the email, click send, and the message goes out with the attachment.

Any thoughts or explanations for this behaviour?
