Send Button in Outlook 2000

My problem is when finished typing my email, I click the send button,
Outlook puts my mail in the Outbox. I have to click on Send / Receive to get
the email to go.
Can someone explain why this is happening?

I use Outlook 2002 so it may be different but try this: look under "options" in the "Tools" menu. Click on the "Mail Setup" tab. Make sure the "Send immediately when connected" text box is checked. If it's different in Outlook 2000 there is probably a similarly functional check box hidden somewhere else.
