send messages are sitting in outbox. How can I get them to leave

I've just set outlook up as my preferred email. Emails I have created are
sitting in the outbox, refusing to go. I have the default outlook settings
and no delay flags on mails. Help

If you can not delete it, two things you can do:

1. Cut the network connection, Outlook will get an abort on sending and
release the message.
2. If 1. does not help, create a new file, make it the default and re-start
Outlook. Now the Outbox is in the new file. Outlook will not try to send
from the other file, you can delete the message.

What happens when you click Send/Receive? What version of Outlook? What
type of account?
