Send Notes to Word?

I'm looking at a Gateway Convertible Notebook. One question the salesman
couldn't answer though...

Is it possible to take notes in a meeting using the stylus, and then when
back at the office simply move those notes over to MS Word for further
editing, formatting, and storage as a .doc file? If possible, is it
straightforward or a lot of steps?

Yea it'd be on a laptop. But then once I create the .doc file I'd store it
away on our network for use by anyone with Word. So this is a normal
straightforward thing to do then?

You won't be able to use a "stylus" on the laptop. OneNote, when installed
on a Tablet PC, uses the Tablet's handwriting engine - and that isn't
available anywhere but on a Tablet PC. As for using OneNote on a laptop and
just typing notes, sure!

Doesnt the Ink stay when you share the onenote file from the tablet to the
other laptop? or even if you send the note to word... then put it on a file
server? I think it does.

Sorry...I meant yea it'd be a Tablet. I'm looking at the Gateway
Convertible. It comes with OneNote and Word installed. I know I can take
notes...but I wanna make sure I can get those "notes" easily into a Word
document that myself or others without a Tablet or OneNote can edit. I
don't want my handwritten notes to come into Word as an image...I want it to
come in converted to typewritten text.

Basically now, without a tablet PC, I go to a conference and take notes on
paper...then come back to the office & retype them into a Word document to
send to others to append their notes and save for long term storage as a
normal .doc file. I'm thinking this Convertible with OneNote should allow
me to cut out a step & just take the "notes" and then hit a button to
convert it to a Word .doc, and go in and do some slight modification or
formatting before passing it along to others.

Sorry for sounding so dense...but that IS possible right?

Yes as far as I know, yes!
You can take handwritten notes in ON and convert the handwriting to -text-
right there! and send to word.. and then finalize any editing you need, and
send it to partners or clients, or store the word document.
It's simple... but I recommend do not buy gateway... personal preference,
plus their new tablet I've only heard bad stuff about. Its nothing to get
exited about. I recommend you do some more looking around for other tablets.
Look at motion computing's tablet, they have a keyboard attachment that
makes it "convertable" in a sense... Also they just dropped their prices!!!!

Oh also to add. I recommend do not do any editing in onenote, it's a pain,
and its not what ON was meant for... heh... onenote is a note taking tool,
and as it sounds thats what you want it for, you send the note to word. In
word you can finish up any editing, put bullets and other nifty things you
can't do effectivly, or at all with onenote.

Thanks James, that's exactly what I'd envision using it for...just taking
the notes...and using Word later to pretty it up but at least I wouldn't
have to retype everything like I do now when going from paper notes back to
Word. And I will check out Motion Computing too. Thanks again!
