"Send on behalf of" Problem, No Exchange And I don't want it

O

ofanged1

Recently, all emails downloaded by Outlook 2003 from an external Email
server, not exchange, Began comming in as "(e-mail address removed) on
behalf of (e-mail address removed)". The problem I have with this is
"(e-mail address removed)" is the person that send the email and
"(e-mail address removed)" is the administrative account from which
all other email accounts are setup. "(e-mail address removed)" is not
even used. At this time the "Send On Behalf of" tag does not appear to anyone
I send email to. But If (e-mail address removed) sends me email it now says
"(e-mail address removed) on behalf of (e-mail address removed)" How do I keep
that from showing up and showing my users the email from who really sent it???

It is being added by the server and you have no control over it.

I appriciate the responce. Fortunatly, I have a provider whom is very
helpfull and willing to consider server configuration changes for problems
like these. Since you say this problem originates from my mail server do you
have any insight regarding this or is this just another good reason to
convince this company, everyday linux seems like a better choice.
Don't get me wrong, Microsoft has alot to offer unfortunatly total cost of
ownership on smaller systems raises when a new "feature" can't be turned off
and is confusing users, causing IT to spend man hours on issues that could
have been prevented.

Since I have no idea what your server is, I cannot answer.

You say it is being added by the server, but I traced an email. Sent a
message from a gmail account to another gmail account. No problems. Them I
sent an email from the gmail account to an email address at the domain in
question ([email protected]). I checked this email with a webmail client,
neomail. The header was properly displayed as "(e-mail address removed)", so I didn't
see how the server changed the header since it was delivered as it is
expected. I opened Outlook 2003 and retrived the email message, without
removing it from the server. The from address appeared as
"(e-mail address removed) on behalf of (e-mail address removed)". At this
point, if the server modified the mail message's headers it would show up in
neomail, but the headers remain as they should in neomail. They are only
different in Outlook 2003. To further test your theory, I opened KMail on
SuSE 10 and configured it to retrieve email for this user without removing it
from the server. KMail downloaded the message and displayes the headers
perfectly "From: (e-mail address removed)", and "To: (e-mail address removed)". So lastly, I
opened up a new XP machine with Office 2003 Installed and retrieved the email
for the admin user. Low and behold "(e-mail address removed) on behalf
of (e-mail address removed)" is listed as the from address.

If this does not lead you the conclution the problem seems to be getting
added on the client then please help me understand better where the problem
lies.

Thank You,
Frank

I normally dont double post, but the forum lacks an edit button so I
apologize. I wanted to add, the from address is diplayed properly in the
inbox, The added info "on behlaf of" is only displayed in the preview pain
and when reading the actial message.
