Send/Receive box does not automatically disappear

Hi:

In Outlook 2003, when one clicks send/receive, the box that appears normally
closes after a few seconds. How do I correct an issue if the box stays there
and has to be closed by clicking on the X on the window? I read something
about push/pin but wasn't entirely certain on that feature.
