Send/Receive Progress Window Fails to Report Errors

New OL2003 installation (over Office 2000/OL2000), WinXP, POP e-mail.

The Send/Receive Progress Window fails to report transmission errors....
just closes as if transmission were successful. Appears not to be in
"verbose' mode.

Any suggestions........????
