Hello,
I just started having this problem with Entourage 2008. I have three pop accounts and one Exchange account.

I was working with the I.T. department debugging issues with free/busy calendar events and exchange server 2007. They had me create a new account, that worked but now I have this issue:

When I'm off site ( not connected to the exchange server ) and checking my pop mail or creating a new email an error message pops up saying server disconnected. I never had this problem before, it didn't check my exchange mail when I was not on the company Lan. I looked all though the settings. I know it's got to be something simple.
Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick!

I suspect the problem is that your Exchange account in your new profile
is set to be the default account. When you go to compose a new message,
Entourage is trying to access your Exchange account and cannot.

Go to Tools --> Accounts and select one of your POP accounts. Click the
Make Default button at the top to make it the default account.

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I checked that and my pop account is set as default. I toggled it from one pop to the other and it doesn't make a difference.

This is very annoying, I'm sure it's something simple.

The error is -18597 but I see nowhere to deselect that exchange account from the send/receive all etc. Funny thing is that it never did this before with my old Exchange account.
If you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks,
RIck

Try this:

Go to Entourage menu --> Preferences... --> Mail & News Preferences -->
Compose. If "Search directory services when addressing messages" is
selected then de-select it.

Hope this helps!

BIll I tired the ldap suggestion, didn't make a difference.

Any other ideas? I know when I get back to the office and I'm on the corp lan I won't get this message. But as I writing this I remember that when I was at the office prior to adding this new account I would get that message for my pop accounts if I selected send / receive but that seemed correct to me because I wasn't able to get my pop mail behind the firewall. It's like it's reversed. Strange , anyway..any other ideas?
Thanks, Rick

I think I found the issue....My network settings were using company lan location....proxy settings must have had something to do with it. Changed to Automatic and so far so good. Thanks for your help.

Well, I jumped the gun. changing the Location and proxy settings did NOT make a difference. I'm still getting error boxes every time I create an email or when Entourage attempts to send/receive.

Help.
thanks,
Rick
