Send to mail recipient (As attachment) Outlook 03 error

This problem occurs from either Word or Excel, haven't tried
PowerPoint or Access yet, but I'm assuming it will give the same
results. From Word or Excel with the document open, select
file/send to mail recipient (as attachment) we get the error "could
not open one or more attachment" even from just send to mail
recipient same results. If you open Outlook first then attach the
document, then you can send the attachment with no errors.

Has anybody run into this issue, seems to be many posts about this
issue but no real fix.
I first encountered the issue last year on somebody else's Office
2000, ended up upgrading the individuals PC to Office 03, and the
issue went away. But now I'm seeing the issue on Office 03.

The Specs on the laptop and environment, Windows Pro XP2 laptop (Dell
D600) running Outlook 2003 on Exchange 5.5. All Office 03 updates
completed, Laptop running 512mb of ram with 40gig HD. MacAfee
VirusScan On Access scan enabled, RightFax client installed, and
Marimba BMC Tuner 7.0 enabled.
