Send To: Mail Recipient (Word 2001)

Greets -

A couple of users running Word 2001 on OS 9.22 have a greyed out "Mail
Recipient" as a send to option -- they're set up exactly as those who
are successfully able to use this feature, with the same email program
(QuickMail) &c. Any ideas how to get this to work on these couple of
machines? I've tossed the prefs and updated to 9.04, to no avail...

Thanks,
z

Hi z,

The Word 2001 Help says...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What programs can I use to send documents in e-mail?
To send documents, you need one of the following programs:
€ Microsoft Entourage
€ Microsoft Outlook for Macintosh, Microsoft Exchange Server Edition
€ Microsoft Outlook Express
€ Eudora Pro or Eudora Light
€ Claris Emailer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Are you sure that the people who are sending successfully are using
QuickMail and Word 2001?

Yep, I thought that might be the issue so I double-checked several
machines -- and all of them are successfully able to send documents
using that function via an old version of QuickMail.

Hi z,

So the version of QuickMail the unsuccessful are using is newer? That would
have to be it. For some reason the old version of QuickMail is compatible
and the new one isn't.

If they are all using the same old version of QuickMail, then it's got to be
some weird quirk because it shouldn't work for some if it doesn't work for
all; and it really shouldn't work for any. This is getting confusing but
you know what I mean :).

Nope, precisely the same version of QuickMail (1.54) on each machine.
(By "old", I meant only that it was not the current release of the
software.) Agreed that it shouldn't work at all, per MS'
documentation, but it *does*, on over a hundred machines, just not on a
couple of them.... Odd.

Just out of curiosity, are the machines where it does work updated to Word
9.0.4?

Both where it does and doesn't....

Ah, well, it was grasping at straws. I vaguely feel that a similar issue
has gone by in the last 2 years--using google groups may offer something
useful.
