Send to Onenote 2007 not working

A

Areef

I have been a big user of the send to onenote 2007 feature. I recently
installed the B2TR and this feature no longer works.

One of two things happens
In Firefox or Acrobat 7 professional the application crashes as it tries to
print the document.

In other applications (word) it will create a new page in onenote (in the
appropriate place) but will no place anything on that page.

I have tried to repair my onenote installation but have had no success.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

To recap: You had OneNote 2007 Beta 2 installed and then patched it to
B2TR?
What Windows are you using? XP, Vista? If Vista, which build?

I am having the same problem.

I've been using Beta 2 with XP Tablet on a Motion LE1600 since the Beta came
out without any problems.

I installed B2TR and have lost the ability to send to One Note. Just tried
a Word 2007 doc and the printer was not offered as a choice.

Help! This is a real handcuff.

Sk,

So you have a different problem. You don't even have a Send to OneNote
2007 printer?
Try repairing the installation.

That is correct. Onenote beta 2 then patched to B2TR. I am running windows
xp.

Also for clarification, previously when trying to print to the "send to
onenote 2007" driver I would be able to modify the properties of the print
job (ie MDI compress or not, or Tiff), but with the upgrade this feature is
also missing. All I can change is the paper size - not sure if this is
related through.

I am able to use the send to onenote Icon in IE 7 (beta) without
difficulties.

Thanks

I took a look at Beta 2 here. Those options were in fact removed in
B2TR. I don't know why these options were removed, but MS must have had
a good reason.
Which application btw crashes when you try to print: OneNote or the
Adobe/Word?
Also, is OneNote open when you are trying to print? How are you
triggering the print?
What happens if you open OneNote, go into Tools, Options, Send to
OneNote and change the setting for Printouts to "On the current page".
Then create a new empty page in ON and try to print to that from
Adobe/Word?

The application that crashes is the one I am trying to print from (acrobat
or firefox).

I have tried both ways with onenote closed or open - there is no difference
(if it is closed it does not open in response to the print).

I tried change the location of the print to fixed location, current
location, new page in current section - no difference.

The other thing I have noticed is that I cannot go into onenote and using
the insert file from printout. If the file I am trying to insert is a pdf -
it states that it cannot be inserted and that I have to have a program that
can open and print this type of file; however if I insert it as a link then
double click on the link it will open the pdf in acrobat.

If I try the insert as print out with a word document - it will open word
and initiate the printing process then I get a run time error (-2147417848
(80010108) Automation error) - then word crashes.

Thanks for your help

At this point, you should go on connect.microsoft.com. Sign up for the
OneNote connection and submit your issue as feedback. Include the full
description of what your problem is and what you have tried so far. It
might also be helpful to include a link to this discussion.
Microsoft will then try to figure out with you what the problem is. Be
warned that it can be several days until you receive any communication
from them.

Don't have Firefox.
But printing from Acrobat does not cause a problem on my side.
Both Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Professional 7 pint into ON B2TR
without a problem.

Different on my side too. Does not work, but differnt error:
When trying to import a PDF with "Insert | File" I get an
error-message:
"The OneNote printer driver has not been installed properly.
Chnge to the menu Help and select "Office Diagnostics to repair the
install"
(my translation from German).

Inserting other file as printout (f.e. JPG) wokrd fine.

In addition:
Inserting a PDF by drag+drop now only offers *2* options (instead of
3). Only insert a link or a copy is offered. Insert as a printoiut is
missing from the dialog box.
Really bad.

I seem to have a problem of this type with the plugin for Outlook. While
Outlook does not crash, I have started to have problems with Outlook since
installing OneNote 2007 beta2 (without TR). I am on XP Pro SP2, Outlook 2003
SP2. Any ideas as to what to do? ... anyone else in this boat?

OneNote 2007 Beta 2 is not compatible Outlook 2003.
Install the TR and try again.

Did you try it with the PDF-maker plug-in too?
(I can not test it anymore as I was dumb enough to switch to Word 2007
[siiiiigh].
Using the PDF-maker was one of the most needed features at all ...)

Now you have built-in PDF support! (well, via a downloadable add-in...)
And heh, I love Word 2007 (and Excel, PPT and Outlook 2007). Of course,
I have been using them since November and it took me at least a month to
get used to the new UI.

Yes. Tested it meanwhile. Ways better now than before when I knew it
from ON only.
Contrary to the previous build of ON - where this did hardly work
sufficiently - in Word exporting the link into the PDF works fine.
This had been my main concern.
I'm fully satified with PDF export from Word.

!!!I confess to have been wrong!!!

Not so with the same in ON.
Obviously the two apps are using a different PDF engine.
Will have to post on this separtely.
May I mail you two one-page PDFs (one from ON, the other from Word
with a table pasted from ON)??
(well, via a downloadable add-in...)

Strange enough: It's an add-in but does not appear as one ...
(At least in ON. Can't check it in Word as this crashes each time I
try to check "Word options | Add-ins)

BTW: Where is it in Outlook?
Could not find it there.

Will take even longer for me :-(

And may a be a matter of taste too.

Outlook doesn't have PDF support. It didn't have it in Beta 2 or earlier
beta versions either. I honestly never noticed that Outlook didn't have
PDF support until someone in the newsgroups asked a week or so ago. I
guess when I want to preserve something from Outlook, I send it over to
ON.
And may a be a matter of taste too.
Completely :)

Outlook doesn't have PDF support.

[himmiherrgottsakrefixellluja!!!]
How could they remove support for the PDF-Maker add-in and not
susbtitue it ...

But this will raise problem of links again.
Completely :)

No. Only to a minor part.
It changes the way work is done.
I know what will brek loose in the offices.
And I can imaging that internal IT support will be snowed under. And
only too find the way through user-customized settings ..

But that's TOT once more.

In the proper section of "Tools | Options" <bg>
Why would the add-in for saving to PDF be under Options? Doesn't make
sense to me.
As for just the Tools, menu:
The catch-all menu? Nah, add-ins belong in the appropriate menus/tabs.
To see a rant about the Tools menu, read

PDF maker add-in? What do you mean with they removed support? MS has
never provided PDF writing capability before...

Areef, could you go to the registry and tell me the value for this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\MDI writer

This may help us to repro this bug. Thanks

Wherelse but there (at least in the present Optios dialog).
Didn't you notice that there is a new item in the list called
"Add-ins"

Could be that this item would be mis-placed there.
But it's sitting there. And it's empty.

My point was: If there is an Add-in and if there is palce wher Add-ins
are listed, the PDF/XPS thingie should show up there.
As for just the Tools, menu:
The catch-all menu? Nah, add-ins belong in the appropriate

You could be right in so far.
But then you would have to tell it to the develpoers in order to
resort things.

Thanks for the link.
Yes, it's a "Flea Market of Functionality" [g,siiiigh]

Not MS. I'm talking about the PDF-Makros for Word et al. (the ones you
love so much <bg,d&r>).
