The Send to OneNote powertoy for IE gives the error "Sorry. Send to OneNote
PowerToy could not create the page in OneNote for some reason. Perhaps the
destination section is read only but there could be other reasons."
After some testing, I discovered that it appears to be a problem with
permissions. I am logged in with a user that belongs to the Admin group
(required by corp apps). However, I am running IE and Outlook under SAFER
software restriction policies, so they have only User group permissions (See
Michael Howard's excellent writings on use of SAFER). Until now, I have not
run into any problems running IE and Outlook with SAFER.
When I start IE under the SAFER policies, I always get the error message
shown above (after some delay) when sending a page to OneNote with the
powertoy. However, if I start IE without the SAFER policies, the Send to
OneNote powertoy works (most of the time, at least I don't get the "Sorry."
error message). There are some pages that cause the Send to OneNote powertoy
to hang IE (i.e.
http://www.ranum.com/security/computer_security/editorials/dumb), requiring
one to kill the IE process.
I understand that powertoys are not officially supported, but this
permissions error seems like such a rudimentary problem, that the OneNote
powertoy team should really know about it (if they don't already).
