I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007.
When I use the Windows Explorer Send To facility to send a file to an
existing entry in my Address Book, the item appears in my Outlook Outbox.
I am not given any indication of whether it is being sent or not.
I assume not and launch Outlook.
No indication of anything being sent.
I select Send/Receive.
Still no indication that my message is being sent.
I select the entry in the Outbox.
I am not given any option of sending it either by Right Clicking or Left
Clicking.
I suspect that it is being sent but how can I tell?
What should be the normal operation/behaviour of the software in the above
situation?
TIA

When Outlook is fully loaded and running, the event of moving a item into
the Outbox folder triggers Outlook to send that item (if you have the "send
immediately" option enabled or at the next scheduled mail poll). When
Outlook is not running, it obviously cannot see that event.

When you compose a new e-mail outside of Outlook (i.e., when Outlook is not
already running), only a stub of Outlook gets loaded that is sufficient to
handle the new-mail dialog. That is only a partial load of Outlook. Once
you click Send in that dialog, your new item gets programmatically added to
the Outbox folder and Outlook unloads. Since Outlook isn't running, it
isn't around to send anything. Since the item was added programmatically to
the Outbox folder, Outlook won't see the event of moving the item into the
Outbox folder when you next *fully* load Outlook. You will need to open the
programmatically added item in the Outbox folder (double-click on it to open
its dialog window) and then click Send. Since you are doing that action
while Outlook is running, it sees the event and will then send your message.

If Outlook isn't fully loaded so it can see the event of a new item getting
added to the Outbox folder, programmatically adding an item to the Outbox
folder is sneaking in an item under Outlook's radar. Other e-mail clients
may not have this problem because they get fully loaded when their new-mail
dialog gets opened. That's not true of Outlook. If you want to ensure that
a new message gets sent when you click on the Send button, make sure Outlook
is already loaded. Outlook needs to be running to see the
move-into-Outbox-folder event and it also needs to be running so it can do
anything, like the send operation.
